^^^Situations like these have been often appearing in the lives of many of the co-programming students around myself. Not so much as an A || B decision, (That's registry symbol implying A OR B(High on exams, excuse my need to exhale the extra info lying around in my head)) but just naturally in our every day routine. Which day to eventually go and buy the course books before the exams really kick in; which day to finally get your mobile recharged and stop hassling your friends for calling credit; or even just which day to finally go and do "Legs" in the Gym. After certain extra real narratives of that last one, I really have started pitying the people who do legs for the first time. Don't worry, it gets better.
And just as one might wonder about that last final thought of actually managing to survive the 'Leg Day' workout, it formulates a sort of achievement in our heads. That it was a certain task we couldn't think we would manage the first time we tried. Or survive the amazing pain the next day when you try and get up from under your blankets, and your loving bed just pulls you back in to sleep just a few more of those 12 hours left in the day. And what about that fine day when you're the one who wakes your alarm clock, with a huge satisfaction that you really can open your eyes and see the sunrise despite your ridiculous claims of being designed-otherwise. It all seems to point to that inevitable thing of there being a certain reason behind it, doesn't it?
Achievements in life are like bookmarks, telling you which page to return to. They are like (for my gamer friends) last checkpoints of life's ladder that we all are climbing and hope to reach the top of one day. Just imagine, what if Flappy Bird had a checkpoint feature? Won't our lives be a lot more easier?
Ofcourse, with every mountain you climb, there's an overbearing need for a flag to be on top of it too. A proof to mark your work and the thing you sweat for. Its a symbol that helps you relate to that mind over matter victory of yours the last time you were faced with a battle you never thought you'd win. They are the things that, when shining, help us reflect upon our great memories of the time where we beat the odds and then the amazing feeling of success spread through our senses. The gold that actually glitters, the Trophies.
Its just surprising to notice that somethings that are claimed all over in our science books as "Non-Living" carry around so many living thoughts inside of them. Just one random look at your Graduation Certificate, framed high on the wall, brings back years of fun, laughter, food, drama(obviously), amongst other things. And its not like our trophies don't influence our style in life. We definitely start wanting more of them, along with maybe getting the chance to brag about it to everyone we know. Feel-good factors don't get any better than these. They are the answers to the FAQ's starring "What have you done of significance till date?". And there it is. All shiny and ready to answer back.
Trophies signify achievement, caliber and a benchmark from where one can look to start again, if need be. The bronze of a medal shines brighter than a golden necklace when all one needs is a reassurance of one's abilities. They provide reinforcements to one's confidence when all that you can think of is giving up. They remind you that there's a level of the game of Life that you've already attained and its really dumb to start off from anywhere behind it. Not that smaller things might be worthless, but the fact that when your eyes are on the sky, only then will you think of flying.
Its funny that I'm actually writing about of all of this, since I am yet to actually get one piece of silverware that would signify something to me. And its in that very frame of thought that I realized that for someone who's yet to win one, the value of the first will probably hold longer than anything else he might achieve later on. Its like what people say of first true love: You never forget them. They are the one's that set the benchmarks. Its thereon whom you start to look forward. Its just like your last saved game. You've already completed the previous level. Its time to move on to the next one. And that's the most important thing you should remind yourself every time you look at your medals: Its time to beat your own best score. Its time to get an even bigger trophy. Its time to make sure that Leg Day becomes a 'Fun Day'. Its time to make your previous achievements look petite. Its time to make people say, "He/She makes it look so easy!". Its time to leave behind good and proceed to better.

Brilliant thought!! I am thoroughly impressed. And I hope you are aware that you already have a bunch of 'silverware' up your sleeve in your twenty odd years .. including being an author of this blog and I can give you a long list so you can stop being so modest ;). Having said the good things here, being myself, I will reserve some obiter dicta for a private one on one conversation with you :P!!
